Emma Stone's Giambattista Valli gown is just like Nicole Kidman's from the 2007 Oscars

Emma Stone's Giambattista Valli couture gown on the Academy Awards red carpet last night was a brave choice.
Not only was the bright cerise hue a risk for a redhead (that, incidentally, she pulls off) but the silhouette, with its statement bow at the neck is one we've seen before, as Nicole Kidman wore a remarkably similar gown to the Oscars in 2007.
The two dresses are by no means identical - the Australian actress's gown was Balenciaga, and too different a cut and shade for the Valli creation to be branded a copy.

Who wore it best? Emma Stone's Giambattista Valli dress on the Oscars red carpet last night (left) bore several similarities to the Balenciaga one Nicole Kidman wore to the same event in 2007 (right)
But one cannot ignore the likeness of the necklines - that divided opinions of style commentators both then and now.
Jennifer Lopez
Familiar:The Gucci gown Jennifer Lopez wore to the 2011 Met Gala was also similar to Miss Stone's
While the Daily Beast's Robin Givhan deemed Miss Stone 'regal and glamorous', the New York Daily News placed her on its worst-dressed list.
The paper's review read: 'Looks like this Giambattista Valli Louis red bow is wearing an Emma Stone!'
It also helps that the two actresses are alike themselves to a degree. Both tall with a slender, boyish frame with naturally red hair - though Ms Kidman's was dyed blonde back in 2007.
Miss Stone's dress also bore a likeness to the Gucci creation that Jennifer Lopez wore to last year's Met Gala.

Perhaps thanks to the fact that the singer's neck tie was more understated, and offset by a dramatic floral ruffle at the shoulders, it was hailed a sartorial hit.
Indeed the gown, from Frida Giannini's fall/winter 2011 collection, which was inspired by the Seventies aesthetic of Florence Welch, was probably one of the best of her career.
Miss Stone may not have won such plaudits for last night's look, but she deserves praise for not playing it too safe.
Her sartorial instincts mean she is fast emerging as a face to watch on the red carpet, and Giambattista Valli was her choice for several press junkets ahead of the release of her breakout movie, The Help.

No plus one for Natalie Portman this year as she shows off svelte post-pregnancy figure

At last year's Oscars she was heavily pregnant and had the pressure of being a best actress contender.
But it was a different story for Natalie Portman tonight as she waltzed on to the red carpet at the Academy Awards care-free.
The 30-year-old actress put her svelte post-pregnancy figure on show in a red polka-dot dress, eight months after giving birth to son Aleph and a year after she took home the best actress gong for her movie Black Swan.

Her handsome fiance Benjamin Millepied stood by her side as she made her grand return to the Oscar red carpet.

Last year Portman was resplendent in regal purple Rodarte at the 2011 Academy Awards as she took home the Best Actress trophy for Black Swan.
But this year, the actress could finally let her hair down now that the pressure of winning an Oscar no longer rested heavy on her head.

The Israeli-born stunner decided to have some fun with her frock this year.
Instead of choosing a serious, glamorous look, the No Strings Attached star opted for a fun red polka dot-covered vintage Dior dress.
The diminutive actress was literally dripping in Harry Winston diamonds.
A platinum and diamond V-shaped cluster necklace rested on her delicate throat, while platinum and diamond drop earrings by the same designer dangled from her lobes.
She also accessorised with a vintage-looking black pillbox clutch.
She kept her make-up minimal, eschewing bright red lips or smoky eyes so that her outfit might take centre stage.

Portman has taken some time off this year to dote on her son, Aleph, who was born last June.
She announced both her pregnancy and engagement to her baby's father, ballet dancer Benjamin Millepied, at the same time in December of 2010.

Wearing an adorable white cardigan knitted by her great grandmother, these are the first pictures of Princess Estelle of Sweden. The little girl, who was born last Thursday to Crown Princess Victoria and her husband Daniel, slept through her first photo shoot, oblivious of the joy her birth had brought the country.
Estelle Silvia Eva Mary, who is second in line to the throne, snuggled at her home in Haga Palace, outside Stockholm days after well wishers gathered outside to sign a register and receive a piece of 'Princess cake'.

Little Estelle is the first royal baby in three decades and will receive the title Duchess of Ostergotland, a province in southeast Sweden.
She was born last Thursday at 4:26am (0326 GMT) at the Karolinska University Hospital in Solna, a suburb of Stockholm.

Her emotional father, who held up his hands to show how big she was, said she tipped the scales at 7lb 3oz.
The prince said: 'When I left the room the little princess was sleeping on her mother's chest and they were looking very cozy.'

He added that his father-in-law, King Carl XVI Gustaf, and mother-in-law, Queen Silvia, 'are very happy' about the birth.
Victoria married Daniel, a commoner and her former personal trainer, in June 2010.
In August last year, the Royal Court announced that Victoria was pregnant and expected to give birth in early 2012.

Victoria, 34, is next in line to the throne. Her father has been king since 1973.
The Swedish monarch is primarily a figurehead, representing the country as the head of state but without political power.

The royal family has recently been shrouded in controversy.

In 2010 a book claimed that King Carl XVI Gustaf had a playboy lifestyle.
The King denied the allegations in a rare interview in May 2011 but also apologised for undermining trust in the monarchy.
It is hoped that a new royal baby will restore the Swedish people's faith in the monarchy.

Irina Shayk puts Sports Illustrated behind her with high fashion shoot for Harper's Bazaar

Irina Shayk may have been replaced by Kate Upton as Sports Illustrated's Swimsuit edition beauty, but the Russian supermodel shows she is still a very able cover girl on the March edition of Harper's Bazaar Arabia.
Dressed in a stunning, pale mint-green, floor-length Dior gown which matches the 26-year-old's piercing eyes, Irina bares her leg right up to the thigh.
It is a pose worthy of Angelina Jolie at last night's Oscars - although Irina manages to look a lot more natural.

Within the magazine, Irina shows off even more of her stunning figure in a triptych of photos of the model wearing a green and white Seventies-style Prada swimsuit.
While another high fashion photo showing Irina in the pose of the moment - with her arms in the air - gives a glimpse of a black, white and silver Chanel number.

The photos were all shot by Pavel Havlicek.
Irina is a favourite with Harper's Bazaar. She did a fashion spread in the Spanish edition of the magazine in November 2010.
In February 2011 the model covered Harper's Bazaar Mexico, wearing a Victoria Beckham dress.

Ms Shayk is also famous for her work with Intimissimi - the lingerie firm who discovered the model - and with Armani Exchange.
It is supposedly through her work with Armani that she met Portuguese football player Ronaldo, also 26, who she has been dating since early 2010.
In February last year Irina and Ronaldo were reported to be engaged after he apparently jetted from Spain to New York to propose to the Russian beauty on Valentine's Day.

This year, speaking to the NY Post, Irina dished out some advice for women celebrating Valentine's Day.
The confident model said: 'You just have to be yourself to flirt and be beautiful and sexy. You don’t need to have long legs and big lips and beautiful hair and makeup. Just be a normal person.'
That's easy for her to say!
Real Madrid star Ronaldp is already father to a baby boy. He became a father on June 17 when a mystery woman gave birth to Cristiano Ronaldo Jr.
His mother Dolores is helping raise the baby between Madrid and Portugal. The identity of the baby's mother has never been revealed.

Jennifer Aniston vows to wed Justin Theroux by end of 2012

After her very public divorce from Brad Pitt, Jennifer Aniston has been careful about walking down the aisle again.
But she's so smitten with boyfriend Justin Theroux she's reportedly adamant she'll marry him by the end of this year.
The actress has jokingly given him an ultimatum to propose before the end of 2012 or the relationship will be over.

They've barely been seen without each other since making their romance public last year.

And things hotted up even more when they shared their first public kiss during the actress' Hollywood Walk of Fame unveiling last week.
Now the 43-year-old star is hoping to make their union official by making him her second husband.
The Daily Mirror reports she told friends: 'I'll be married by the end of the year.'
She is said to have opened up about the blossoming romance during a pre-Oscars party on Friday, revealing they've got even closer since buying their 'baby' - a boxer-pitbull dog called Sophie.

'Things are fabulous, I'm happy. If he's not got down on one knee, or we're not married, by the end of the year, it's over!'
Jennifer was photographed proudly placing a kiss on Justin's lips during her Walk of Fame ceremony in the week.

Justin's clearly already getting on well with her family as he sat next to her beloved father John.
As her lover watched on she told the crowd: 'It feels very surreal to be honest. I was born here and it's sort of something you went and saw as a kid and got excited about just walking and seeing the names.

Following her split from Brad Pitt in 2005 Jennifer has had failed romances with other stars including funnyman Vince Vaughn and singer John Meyer.
But she has now reportedly found 'The One' in Justin, who she appears with in upcoming movie Wanderlust.
A source adds: 'Jennifer has never been so happy romantically.'

Prince Albert II brings his wife Princess Charlene to the Oscars

The Academy Awards are renowned for bringing out Hollywood royalty.
But tonight, A-list movie stars rubbed shoulders with real royalty as Prince Albert II of Monaco and his wife Princess Charlene walked up the red carpet.
The European royal, 53, and his bride, 34, followed in the footsteps of his late mother, actress Grace Kelly as they attended the Oscars.

Former South African swimmer Charlene opted for a floor-length pleated gown with sheer top by Swiss designer Akris.
She was rumoured to be opting for a dress by Giorgio Armani, who created her gown for her July 2011 wedding to Prince Albert.

She completed her look with a cream Akris clutch and a swept back 'do, quite similar to the style worn by what would have been her mother-in-law.

Kelly, who later became Princess Grace after marrying Prince Rainier III, famously won Best Actress in 1955 for The Country Girl.
Just a year before she met Prince Rainier, Grace wore a pistachio colour gown as she picked up the golden statuette during a ceremony at the RKO Pantages Theatre.
At the time, Judy Garland was favourite to win for A Star Is Born, but could not attend the ceremony as she was in hospital after giving birth to her son Joseph Luft.
NBC Television cameras were reportedly set up in Garland's hospital room to televise her acceptance speech from her bed, but when Kelly was announced as the winner, the camera crew were said to have made a speech exit without telling the actress why.
Before her death in 1969, Garland was reported to have said: 'I didn't appreciate Grace Kelly taking off her make-up and walking away with my Oscar.'
Kelly went on to make five more films before retiring from acting in 1956 to become a Princess.
Prince Albert and Princess Charlene's attendance comes seven months after the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge rubbed shoulders with Hollywood's finest during their U.S. trip.

Women across the world already envy her fantastic figure, but now they're about to feel jealous of Kate Upton a whole lot more.
The 19-year-old model tweeted a photo of herself getting ready for the Vanity Fair Oscar party yesterday and thanked her team for doing so 'in a rush.'
As she arrived at the annual event in West Hollywood, anyone would have thought it takes a while to look as good as Upton did - but clearly it doesn't.

Wearing a floor-length red dress that highlighted her slender figure perfectly, Upton kept her look minimalistic.
She teamed the bright garment with a few bracelets, a statement ring and a simple black clutch bag.
Upton has sky-rocketed to fame in the past few weeks after gracing the cover of the latest Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue.
