We may have been accustomed to pictures of Amy Winehouse out partying and drinking but all the real Amy wanted was to be a mother, her close friends have said.
During an interview with Radio 5 live the star’s stylist Alex Foden referred to the home-loving Amy who desperately wanted to share her talent and more importantly, her love with others.
‘All she wanted was to start a family and open a singing school - the price of fame was hard for Amy’, he said.

The singer’s maternal ambitions didn’t escape Amy's close friend, and former backing singer, Zalon Thompson either, who told the show:

‘She actually wasn’t really interested in the whole celebrity world she was more into being a housewife singing in bars and thinking about children.’

And there was only one person in the world Amy wanted to start a family with, Blake Fielder-Civil.

Speaking of their seemingly unbreakable bond, Mr Foden said, ‘That can never be taken away and that was quite clear to see.

‘Nobody can describe to you that feeling unless they have been that dangerously in love.

‘Her and Blake were thick as thieves, she loved him. It was everybody else that didn’t and the same with me and Blake, Amy surrounded herself with people that were not good for her.’

Arguably, fame was one of the factors that wasn’t good for Amy and it’s something the stylist believes she never wanted saying:

‘Given an opportunity I think she would have liked to change her life because she loved cats she’d rather work with cats, had she loved children and cats. I remember coming round one time there were 12 cats in her house.’

‘She had a massive bravado outside the house she was so defensive because [the media] tore her to bits. Inside the house she so loved always welcoming to anybody who was there she’d invite her fans off the street.’

The loving side of the star was something the press seldom saw, but something her friends now want to emphasize.

‘The Amy that I knew invited you into her house and made you a cup of tea’, said Mr Thompson who was signed to Amy’s label.

Another friend of the star's Luke Mills who works with Dionne Bromfield, Amy’s protégé, added: ‘Amy’s is massively caring if somebody has got a problem then Amy has that problem as well. She had all these little things she would do.’

Close confidante Mr Foden who used to live with Amy, also shared the struggles the singer faced when performing at her last ever concert, the disastrous Belgrade gig in Serbia where she was booed off stage after appearing too drunk to sing.

‘That was another level, I’d never seen her like that.’
‘I burst out crying because I knew how hard it is. She was tiring to take on the world but the one thing she couldn’t do was stick to her own words.’
Quick to eradicate this event as the last memory of a hugely talented star, her friends will remember her in their own way.
‘People need to realise that we have lost someone really special and we haven’t just lost an amazing talent but an amazing person’, said Mr Fendon.
