Matthew Williamson Resort 2012

Inspired by the art and culture of the Far East for his latest Resort collection, Matthew Williamson borrows motifs from traditional Japanese painting for its prints and shapes from the Japanese wardrobe for its styles. Loose, kimono-like dresses are banded with belts resembling traditional obis, though these gleam in metallic. Landscape prints influenced by classical Japanese watercolors are modernized with the subtle addition of cityscape elements—skyscrapers inserted among the blossoming trees. Florals play a large part in the collection too, whether sequin-encrusted and scattered over shifts, flattened into prints, or knit into patterns on long intarsia dresses and skirts.
A gorgeous array of colour and textures. My favourite pieces have to be the cobalt long-sleeved gown, floral print kimono and the turquoise lace dress! So fabulous!
