Elizabeth, 46, is said to be taking on the role Diana Payne and will appear in a number of episodes.
TV Line.com reported that executive producers Stephanie Savage and Joshua Safran have said Elizabeth’s character is: ‘a sexy, smart, self-made media mogul and all-around force to be reckoned with.’
‘Diana’s entrance on the Upper East Side will change the lives of all our characters - including, and especially Gossip Girl herself.’

‘Elizabeth’s sense of humor, intelligence and beauty fit the GG world perfectly. We feel very fortunate to have her.’
The actress and model is currently dating Australian cricketer Shane Warne who she met last July at the Goodwood festival.
And although the pair have shared some very public displays of affection both parties have remained tight-lipped about their relationship.

But speaking to Grazia last week Elizabeth opened up and said: 'We come from very different worlds so I see that's fascinating, if not odd, to many.’
'But it's not often you meet people you instantly feel comfortable with, and when you find that - even if there are vast differences and background and experiences - it's worth following through.
'When you recognise you have a lot in common with someone, it's nice to explore.'
However, Liz, 46, is also aware that the long-distance between them can be a problem at times.
She added: 'The biggest problem is we're 23 hours apart. It's a challenge. We'll see what happens.'
