True Grit's young star Hailee Steinfeld makes modelling look like child's play

True Grit star Hailee Steinfeld's is just 14-years-old and she's already fronting her first modelling campaign.

The stunning shoot is for Miu Miu soon and is heavily influenced by the Western that earned her an Oscar nomination.

Many of the shots would not look out of place in a Western film just like the one shot by the Coen Brothers - albeit one with very good clothes.

It's a sophisticated shoot, with a real retro feel but in one shot, the high achiever looks every bit a child as she chomps on pizza, while modelling the expensive clothes.

She looks every inch the designer spokesmodel in a structured white shirt, a black bird print dress and a vintage-inspired cream, green and pink shirt dress.

All outfits accessorized with sky-scraping heels.

But the fact that the actress is just 14 has sparked criticism of the fashion industry, accusing it of using models so young, the women who can afford to buy designer clothing cannot relate to them.

The Bruce Weber photos mark a departure from the brand's past campaigns, which are usually shot by top fashion photography duo Mert & Marcus.

Hailee is seen in a theatrical sultry stances with minimal make-up.

And while it is clear that she looks her age and has not been dressed up to look like an adult, as so often happens with teenage models, many fashion insiders are already asking if a 14-year-old will convincingly sell designer clothes to grown women.

Daily Mail Style Director Liz Jones said she was shocked by the choice of such a young spokesmodel.

She told MailOnline: 'Miu Miu is the diffusion label of Prada, but it still costs an arm and a leg.

'I find it obscene that a child of 14, no matter she is a star, no matter how sophisticated, is used to peddle designer fashion, surely as bad for teen girls as smoking or underage sex.

'Even 16 is too young to peddle designer fashion. I'm shocked.'

The Tom and Lorenzo fashion blog added: 'She quite literally looks like a typical 15-year-old. Which would be great if this was an ad for, we don’t know… H&M or Bebe or some clothing line geared toward young girls.

'Sure, the Miu Miu line is considered the younger, hipper version of Prada, but come on, that’s a dress for a grown-up.'

The young star follows in some high-profile footsteps in modelling for Miu Miu.

Hailee's stylist, Karla Welch, revealed that an introduction between Miss Steinfeld and the label was made earlier this year at the SAG awards.

She told the Daily Beast: 'We formed a relationship with them at the SAG Awards.

'Miu Miu is such a perfect fit for her. Throughout awards season, they were the dresses she wanted to wear.'

Thanks to Ms Welch, age-appropriate dresses from Marchesa, Prabal Gurung and Alberta Ferretti have made Hailee a hit with the fashion press.

But Miu Miu has quickly become a favourite and she has been seen wearing the label on a number of occasions.
