As the sweet-faced slender figure
behind singles such as Mistletoe and Boyfriend, Justin Bieber's hardly
known for his aggressive tenancies.So
when he wielded a 'Thor-style' hammer at the Tribeca Film Festival
today, the spectacle made for a rather humorous comparison.
In fairness to the 18-year-old, he was hardly attempting to look menacing, as the 'hammer' was in fact an award presented to him by the festival this afternoon.
Bieber and his manager Scooter Braun,
who discovered the youngster at the age of 14, were recognised at
Tribeca with the 'Disruptive Innovator' award.
The award honors people who have disrupted their industry with new technologies, ideas, and strategies.
Justin accepted the award speaking about how he credited the Internet with his rise to stardom.
Justin was discovered by Scooter
after his homemade YouTube videos reached thousands online, and to this
day he is renowned for his conscientious attention to fans on Twitter.
Justin said: 'For me, I need to interact with my fans. I take time out of my day to reweet fans.'
He added, neatly: 'I wouldn’t be here without the Internet.'
Appropriately, Justin took to Twitter almost immediately to share the news with his fans.
He posted: 'got the DISRUPT award at the tribeca film festival with @scooterbraun. in school i got in trouble for being disruptive. LOOK AT ME NOW. lol'
The teen added: 'the award was for how we changed the game. WE. ME and ALL OF YOU did this TOGETHER. THIS IS YOUR AWARD TOO. THANKS'
Justin has just returned from a trip
to London, where he was almost under siege at his hotel, such was the
fervour of the scores of fans who remained camped outside throughout his
stay.
Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey and filmmaker and actor Ed Burns were among others who accepted the award- symbolically shaped like a hammer.
