Paul McCartney and his girlfriend of four years Nancy Shevell have got engaged, it emerged today.
The 68-year-old musician started dating the 51-year-old New York businesswoman in the summer of 2007 - a year before his high profile divorce with Heather Mills was finalised.
Despite the 17 year age difference, friends have described the pair as the 'perfect couple' with one source telling People.com: 'They have the right chemistry.'
To wed: Paul McCartney and Nancy Shevell are engaged, it emerged today
Stella McCartney, the Beatle legend's daughter from his first marriage to Linda, is said to be 'absolutely thrilled' for her father.
The news comes three years after McCartney's very public divorce from Heather Mills, which ended in a messy High Court battle.
Paul met Nancy in the The Hamptons in New York and both said to share the same 'chilled and optimistic' outlook on life.
Nancy, the vice president of a family-owned transportation conglomerate, also gets on fabulously with Paul's five children.
He had four children with with Linda - who died of breast cancer in 1998 - Heather, 48, Mary, 41, Stella, 39 and James, 33.
So in love: Nancy and Paul put on an affectionate display at Los Angeles LAX Airport last month as he waved her off
He has a fifth child with Mills, seven-year-old daughter Beatrice.
Paul and Nancy were recently pictured together on the red carpet at the Costume Institute Gala at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City last Tuesday.
This will be the third wedding for former Beatle Sir Paul.
He was married to Linda McCartney from 1969 until her death from breast cancer in 1998.
He then married Mills, a former model and philanthropist, in 2002.

The couple separated in May 2006 and were officially divorced in May 2008.
Following his bitter divorce from Mills, Sir Paul was apparently in no rush to tie the knot with Nancy when they first started dating.
In 2008 he said of Shevell: 'I just like being in love,' when asked about possible nuptials.
Paul spokesman has so far refused to confirm the news, which was reported by U.S. website People.com.
'We don't comment on this kind of thing,' Stuart Bell told news agency Reuters.
ALL YOU NEED IS....THE LIFE AND LOVES OF PAUL MCCARTNEY
None of the Beatles were exactly legendary Lotharios, but Paul McCartney has had his fair share of romance and, of course, some hiccups in his lovelife along the way...
1959-1962
The young Paul dated some wonderfully-named women including Winona Williams, Julie Arthur, a lovely lady called Layla, Cory Sentrop and Thelma Pickles - but none of them were exactly serious.
Dot Rhone however was his girlfriend for three years, from 1959-1962. He met her in the Casbah club in Liverpool as the Beatles' star was in the ascendant. They were due to marry when she fell pregnant, but their relationship fell apart when she miscarried.

1963-1968
Jane Asher. Macca met the very British actress, pictured right, with the upperclass accent at a Beatles performance at London's Royal Albert Hall.
They became something of an iconic couple of the Swinging Sixties and they even got engaged, but there five year relationship foundered when McCartney became involved with another woman, scriptwriter Francie Schwartz - and Asher found them in bed together.
However, plenty of other women have claimed to have had affairs with the Mop
Top, including model Peggy Lipton and singer Julie Felix.

1969-1998
Linda Eastman. The year after his split with Asher and his Francie fling, Macca began seeing photographer, New York socialite, divorcee and single mother-of-one Linda, pictured right.
The pair had already met in 1967, when Linda has an assignment to document London's music scene in the Swinging Sixties.
Two years later and they became seriously involved and Linda became the love of sir Paul's life.
They had four children, Linda's daughter Heather, who was adopted by Paul, Mary, Stella and James and they remained devoted to each other until she sadly passed away following a battle with breast cancer in 1998.

1999-2006
Heather Mills. Once pitied by the public sympathy by the public for losing her leg in an accident, former model Heather Mills, pictured right, became the most publicly hated of any of McCartney's loves.
The pair met at an awards ceremony and married in 2002 - just four years after losing Linda - and had daugther Beatrice in 2003.
Macca said of the animosity towards his then partner: 'They [the British public] didn't like me giving up on Jane Asher. I married a New York divorcee with a child, and at the time they didn't like that.'
However, cracks soon appeared with Mills complaining that Macca was a 'boring old fart' who had no friends. A year after their 2006 split, Mills gave a number of interviews blaming her husband's daughter Stella, whom she described as 'jealous' and 'evil' for the marriage breakdown.
They divorced in May 2008 with Heather landing a whopping after a hugely acrimonious high court battle. She ended up with £24.3million, less than a fifth of the £125million she had sought from their four year marriage.

2007-present
Before getting serious with his now fiancée, Macca was linked to a couple of blonde beauties, heiress Sabrina Guinness and Desperately Seeking Susan actress Rosanna Arquette, pictured right.
But all bets were off when he started stepping out with New York socialite Nancy Shevell in November 2007, a mult-millionairess in her own right who most definitely not after the former Beatle for his money.
