Prince Albert II brings his wife Princess Charlene to the Oscars

The Academy Awards are renowned for bringing out Hollywood royalty.
But tonight, A-list movie stars rubbed shoulders with real royalty as Prince Albert II of Monaco and his wife Princess Charlene walked up the red carpet.
The European royal, 53, and his bride, 34, followed in the footsteps of his late mother, actress Grace Kelly as they attended the Oscars.

Former South African swimmer Charlene opted for a floor-length pleated gown with sheer top by Swiss designer Akris.
She was rumoured to be opting for a dress by Giorgio Armani, who created her gown for her July 2011 wedding to Prince Albert.

She completed her look with a cream Akris clutch and a swept back 'do, quite similar to the style worn by what would have been her mother-in-law.

Kelly, who later became Princess Grace after marrying Prince Rainier III, famously won Best Actress in 1955 for The Country Girl.
Just a year before she met Prince Rainier, Grace wore a pistachio colour gown as she picked up the golden statuette during a ceremony at the RKO Pantages Theatre.
At the time, Judy Garland was favourite to win for A Star Is Born, but could not attend the ceremony as she was in hospital after giving birth to her son Joseph Luft.
NBC Television cameras were reportedly set up in Garland's hospital room to televise her acceptance speech from her bed, but when Kelly was announced as the winner, the camera crew were said to have made a speech exit without telling the actress why.
Before her death in 1969, Garland was reported to have said: 'I didn't appreciate Grace Kelly taking off her make-up and walking away with my Oscar.'
Kelly went on to make five more films before retiring from acting in 1956 to become a Princess.
Prince Albert and Princess Charlene's attendance comes seven months after the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge rubbed shoulders with Hollywood's finest during their U.S. trip.
