Two young starlets turned affordable street wear into on-trend black tie attire at the year's most prestigious fashion event.Actress
Jaime King, 33, and model Dree Hemingway, 24, wore Topshop dresses to
last night's Costume Institute Gala at New York's Metropolitan Museum Of
Art.
But as both gowns played into the night's biggest colour trends, bright coral pink and metallic gold, it was hard to tell they were of a low-cost variety.
Both dresses were previously seen at London Fashion Week when Topshop showed its Unique Autumn/Winter 2012 collection.
The frocks were then 'adapted to reflect the glamour of the Met Ball' according to a spokesman who spoke to MailOnline.
Ms King, who stars in the CW series Hart Of Dixie, was dressed in a custom-made bright coral gown by the chain store.
It featured a subtle scattered cross embellishment and fell all the way to the ground.
A ruffled cap sleeve added a touch of youthful femininity to the look.
It was made a little edgier with a silver Bulgari necklace that wrapped around and fell dramatically down the actress' back.
Ms Hemingway, on the other hand, wore a far less demure custom-made metallic gold dress that featured mesh paneling across the chest. The panels exposed her nipples.
The edgy model is the grand-granddaughter of Ernest Hemingway.
Both women attended the Met Ball as guests of British billionaire Sir Philip Green.
Their decision to wear Topshop is no doubt a major coup for the clothing chain.
But it is not the only low-cost retailer that has dressed Hollywood's elite.
An affordable gown made by H&M, one of Topshop's major competitors, was spotted on actress Michelle Williams at February's BAFTAs.
