LOL may stand for 'laugh out loud,'
but the Miley Cyrus new film of the same name didn't appear to have had
the same effect on cinema audiences. The teen romantic comedy flopped at the U.S. box office last weekend after being released in a limited number of screens.
According to sources, the film, which co-stars Demi Moore and Ashley Greene, earned approximately $46,500.
However Miley, who was putting a
brave face on things as she stepped out in Hollywood yesterday, tweeted
how proud she was of the film, despite the low box office receipts.
'Thank u so much for everyone who went to see LOL,' she wrote on Monday. 'It is a film I loved making and I am proud of. That's all that matters to me.'
Miley plays high school student Lola in the coming of age film, which is based on the 2008 French movie of the same name.
Lionsgate, the studio that released
LOL, unusually did not report official box office numbers for the film
which was made back in 2010.
'My guess is Lionsgate had test screenings that were catastrophic,' box office analyst Len Klady told Yahoo.
The film was also not screened for press review, nor was Miley made available for press interviews to promote the film.
