Marc Jacobs wins prize for most controversial outfit in sheer lace dress and white boxers at Met Gala

Marc Jacobs, the skirt-lover and occasional dress-wearer, forewent pants at last night's Met Gala.Instead, the designer wore a see-through black lace shirt-dress over glaringly white boxers, paired with pilgrim-buckle shoes from his most recent collection.
He said: 'I just didn't want to wear a tuxedo and be boring.'

Underwear as outerwear: Marc Jacobs wore a see-through black lace Commes des Garcons shirt-dress over glaringly white boxers, paired with pilgrim-buckle shoes from the designer's most recent collection

The 49-year-old described the Commes des Garcon tunic as, 'just a lace dress' to model and red-carpet host for the evening, Elettra Wiedemann.

Paying tribute to fellow designers Miuccia Prada and Elsa Schiaparelli, who are the subject of the Metropolitan of Art's new exhibition, the designer added: 'I think Miuccia Prada is such a celebration of the unconventional and so it felt like, appropriate, somehow.
'They are two women that I have always loved the work of; I mean Schiaparelli is one of my all-time heroes and Miuccia Prada continues to be a hero of mine,' he said.

The designer dressed Alexa Chung for the Costume Institute Gala in a white button-up shirt and leather dress, a fashion-forward outfit more likely seen during fashion week than on the red-carpet.
We could say the same about the designer's indecent exposure.
