After weeks of speculation, it has finally been revealed that this year’s H&M collaboration with be with uber-designer Versace! I literally jumped out of bed when I got the press release this morning as I can remember growing up with both my mum and my dad huge fan’s of Gianni Versace’s work.
Following in the footsteps of Lanvin, Karl Lagerfeld, Stella McCartney and Jimmy Choo (to name but a few), H&M have confirmed that Versace will be the next high fashion label to launch a capsule collection for the high street giant. Designed by creative director Donatella Versace – who gave the world a sneak peek of what’s in store by wearing one of her H&M designs to the Versace men’s show in Milan yesterday (see picture above) – the range will ‘take a look back at the heritage of the brand’, by which they mean the leather, loud prints, and riot of colour which made Versace a byword for glamour in its early ’90s heyday.
For H&M, Donatella Versace has looked back to the archives to reinterpret some classic Versace designs. The 40-piece womenswear collection will be dominated by dresses that fit right in with the spirit of the season, featuring studded leather, silk and colorful print, with accessories including high heels and costume jewellery. The 20-piece men’s collection will focus on sharp tailoring, including the perfect tuxedo, as well as belts and jewellery for men, too.
For the first time in a designer collaboration at H&M, the collection will consist of some homeware pieces, including cushions and a bedspread.
Take a look at the video for more insight into the collections and make sure you mark November 17th 2011 in your diaries – the date the collection hits 300 stores worldwide and online!!
