Lindsay Lohan has been convicted of theft after pleading no contest to stealing a necklace from a jewellery store - but will likely serve her sentence at her multimillion mansion rather than behind bars.
The actress did not appear in court but her lawyer Shawn Holley insisted she was not receiving special treatment.
Instead her lawyer appeared on her behalf at the Los Angeles Airport Courthouse to plead to the charges before Judge Stephanie Sautner.
Lohan was sentenced to 120 days in jail but due to overcrowding will likely be released early to serve the sentence under house arrest.
It is up to the Los Angeles Sheriffs Department to determine if Lohan will be put under house arrest when she reports to them to begin the sentence.
The length of the house arrest may be as short as 14 days, according to some U.S. reports.
But Judge Stephanie Sautner made it clear that any time she does spend under house arrest must be served at home and she will not be allowed out of the house.
'She will not be allowed to do her community service while on house arrest,' Judge Sautner said.
'I am glad to be able to put this past me and move on with my life and my career,' Lohan says in a statement.
'I support the judge’s decision and hold myself accountable for being in this situation.'

She adds that she has already begun her community service at a women's center and says she hopes to 'fulfill my obligation without any press attention.'

'I think the media spotlight should be on issues such as homelessness and domestic violence instead of on me," she says.
Sheriff's Department spokeman Steve Whitmore later said Lohan must report to jail on or before June 17.
Whitmore said: 'She will be booked and at that time her eligibility for home monitoring will be determined.'
Lohan was also ordered stay away from the shop Kamofie and Company in Venice Beach, California, where she stole the $2500 from.
She was placed on three years probation and will still have to perform 480 hours community service.
'She is to stay 100ft from Kamofie and Company - and that means don't send flowers,' Judge Sautner said
'She is to pay a victim restitution fine of $100, a court security fine of $40 and a criminal conviction fine of $30 and a crime prevention fine of $10.

'She is to obey all orders and rules of the court while on formal probation.
'She is also to enroll in and complete a shoplifters alternatives course.'
Lohan will have to report to Lynwood woman's jail on or before June 17.
'If she is released on house arrest and monitoring she is not allowed out to perform community service - those are two separate orders,' Judge Sautner said.
Shawn Hollwy told Sautner that Lohan had already begun her community service at the downtown womans centre in Los Angeles.
'She had her initial orientation Monday May 2 and started May 6,' Holley said.
'I have glowing reviews from them
Judge Sautner said she hoped seeing real women struggling will teach the actress a valuable lesson.
'I hope she benefits from seeing how people's lives can become when you lose a couple of paychecks,' she said.
