Lady Gaga dresses as Mary Magdalene and takes a bike ride with Jesus Christ in 'blasphemous' new video for Judas single

Lady Gaga is certainly not concerned about offending with her latest music video.

The pop star plays a modern day Mary Magdalene, who rides on the back of a motorcycle, clinging onto Jesus Christ.

The seven-minute video for Judas is likely to offend - with the track already branded 'blasphemous' by critics.

The song's lyrics include: 'Jesus is my virtue, and Judas is the demon I cling to… I’m just a holy fool, oh baby he’s so cruel, but I’m still in love with Judas, baby.'

It has not gone down well with critics in the U.S.

Bill Donahue, president of The Catholic League for Religious and Civil Rights, told the Hollywood reporter in a statement: 'She is trying to rip off Christian idolatry to shore up her talentless, mundane and boring performances. Another ex-Catholic whose head is turned around.

'Is this the only way to jet up her performance?'

But Gaga defended the video.

'I don't view the video as a religious statement,' she told E! 'I view it as social statement. I view it as a cultural statement.

It's a metaphor. It's not meant to be a biblical lesson.'
