When Cheryl Cole stepped out sporting a big bouffant making her debut as a U.S. X Factor judge, many people questioned why she had overdone the hairspray.

But it seems that Cheryl was simply the first to try out the latest trend and the large hair look has been further championed by Sarah Jessica Parker on the red carpet last night.

The Sex And The City actress arrived at the Robin Hood Foundation annual benefit in New York last night sporting an extremely volumized hairdo.

Hair flare: Sarah stepped out with her over volumised hair just a day after Cheryl had showed off a similar look for her first day as an X Factor USA judge in L.A.

The fashionista, who is well-known for trying out the most current and sometimes controversial trends, arrived at the event in a simply royal purple floor-length gown.

The actress, often found front row come fashion week, teamed the dress with a matching shawl and silver peep-toe heels letting the hair speak for itself with almost no jewellery save for a pair of simple drop earrings.

In her hand Sarah carried a contrasting turquoise and beige hard clutch bag as she arrived at the event held at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center.

The event, which raised $47.4million to fight poverty, saw a whole host of famous faces enjoying a lavish dinner followed by a performance from Lady Gaga.

The event attracted the likes of Gisele Bundchen, who was recently named the highest paid model in the World and American socialite Melanie Trump, both of whom could no doubt afford to flash the cash for the good cause.

With both Cheryl and Sarah’s seal of approval on the big haired bouffant no doubt hairspray stocks will be diminished as followers try to take on the huge hair trend.
