Michael Douglas Looks Relaxed and Happy again, As He is interviewed on The View

The last 18 months has seen him battle cancer, watch his son go to jail and witness his wife Catherine Zeta-Jones seek treatment for bipolar disorder.

So you wouldn't blame Michael Douglas for feeling a bit worse for wear.

But the 66-year-old actor looked remarkably relaxed, happy and positive today as he appeared on U.S, talk show The View.

'It's been a long year-and-a-half,' he admitted. 'Life had been good to me for a really, really long time and I was thinking I'm going to get hit by a truck, it's been too good,'

He added: 'So this karma in the last year and a half has kind of balanced things out, so I feel pretty good for the future.'

Douglas, 66, was given the all-clear from throat cancer in January and was on the show to promote Head and Neck Cancer Awareness Week.

The show also saw him discuss Zeta-Jones's struggle with bipolar disorder after she sought treatment last month.

'She's feeling great,' said the Wall Street actor.

'It's like her 30,000 mile oil and lube check up. She had some issues, I joke about it but in the last year-and-a-half my oldest son got incarcerated, sent to federal prison, my ex-wife sued me, I got cancer.

'It's hard for your wife to say "I'm depressed" you know.'

Douglas went on to reveal that his wife managed to hide the condition from him and their two children for a long time.

'It's probably been going on for a while,' he said.

'But I wasn't really aware of it. You know Catherine and Brits in general - Catherine is Welsh, you never see them in a bad spirits right? They always give the stiff upper lip, carry on and this and that.'

The Oscar-winner added that it wasn't until he went into remission from his cancer that his wife sought help.

'I'm really proud of her,' he said. 'There are some great medications out there now for people, it's an issue that effects a lot of people.'

Zeta-Jones has returned to the movie set, filming new comedy Playing the Field in Louisiana where she was pictured enjoying herself at a jazz festival this weekend.

Meanwhile, Douglas will play Liberace opposite Matt Damon in a movie to begin shooting this autumn.
