Any woman going through a painful break-up, particularly one being played out in the public eye, probably doesn't feel much like holding her head up high.
But Katy Perry is clearly made of stronger stuff and took her first public outing since her divorce announcement to stand as tall as she could - aided by some very fierce looking high heels.
The pop star was snapped at a charity event this weekend sporting some heavy metal on her almost-vertical wedged strappy shoes.
The steel-clad sandals looked like they should be rather uncomfortable, but ever the fashionista - especially one who likes her heels - Perry took them in her stride, quite literally, and strutted on to the red carpet with ease.
She also showed no signs of pain or heartbreak as she posed at the event in Las Vegas with her jewellery designer friend Markus Molinari, who she was there to support.
In fact, she kept a beaming smile firmly fixed on her face the entire evening, one that didn't look forced, as she is no doubt trying to make the best of a bad situation.
Sometimes the sadness could be fleetingly seen behind her pretty eyes, but for most of the evening she looked as though she was having a good time, possibly her way of showing the world that she is getting on with her life.
Sporting aquamarine hair, that only she could pull off, Katy beamed for the cameras as she posed for pictures, showing off her lovely figure in a black embellished mini-dress.
She was at the The Mirage Hotel's new 1oak nightclub in Sin City for the bash which was raising money for Patricia Arquette's charity website, GiveLove.org.
Katy seemed keen to show the world that she's ready to move on from her 14-month marriage.
She even tweeted from the event: 'Happy to be supporting my best friend @MDMOLINARI & his j.molinari jewelry w/all my other besties in #VEGAS for a great cause @GiveLoveOrg'.
Having a close friend on hand was all the support Katy needed and she and Molinari strolled hand in hand down the red carpet.
He later told People magazine that Katy was doing 'amazing' and that she was in town because 'that's what friends do.'
During the event, she hung out in the VIP booth and watched her protégé, Ferras, perform while having a few low-key drinks with her friends.
Perry's happy face and bold public appearance is a surprise, given that new reports have surfaced that her estranged husband has already moved on, having recently moved into a West Hollywood bachelor pad.
He has also allegedly returned to his former womanising ways - according to Us Weekly, who allege he has moved on with one woman in particular.
The source claims that the comedian has ‘sought out one particular woman to explore a relationship with.'
'[Russell] told her he wanted her to move in with him after the divorce is final.’ an insider told the magazine.
While his ex was in Las Vegas yesterday, he was seen out and about having lunch to West Hollywood's Red Rock bar wearing a sombre all-black ensemble.
Last month, the Arthur actor, who was seen leaving a yoga class in Los Angeles this weekend, released a statement ending their marriage.
He said: 'Sadly, Katy and I are ending our marriage. I'll always adore her and I know we'll remain friends.'
His legal team filed court documents at the Superior Court in Los Angeles citing 'irreconcilable differences.'
