Kim Kardashian today admitted she was taken aback by the negative response to her divorce from Kris Humphries.
The 31-year-old stepped in to perform co-hosting duties on Live with Kelly this morning in New York City.
The Keeping Up With The Kardashians star, who wore a figure-hugging lace red dress, said: 'It's been a hard couple of months.'
She hit back at claims the wedding was just a publicity stunt.
'If you really think about it, if this was a business decision and I really made all that money that everyone was claiming that we made off this wedding, and if the wedding was fake and just for TV, I'm a smart businesswoman, I would have stayed married longer.
She added: 'I really didn't think following my heart would create this much backlash.'
She insisted she 'tried everything' to make the relationship work, adding: 'I want that forever love, and if I feel in my heart this isn't right, then why wait years to have the same results?'
Kim revealed that after the split, she packed 'two pairs of sweatpants and a pair of pyjamas' and moved in with her mother, Kris Jenner, to do 'some soul searching.'
The self-proclaimed 'hopeless romantic' hasn't give up on love though, adding: 'I think I just learned that I need to rewrite my fairytale.'
Kim was certainly excited about being asked to join Kelly Ripa on the show.
She tweeted today: 'Up early glamming for @LiveKelly! Tune in this morning! Xo.'
She later added: 'Going live with @LiveKelly tun into ABC east coast!'
Kelly Ripa - who recently signed a new five-year deal to stay with the show - has had a succession of guest hosts since Regis Philbin's departure in November. No full-time replacement has been appointed.
Meanwhile, Kim has admitted that she broke down in tears while watching last night's emotional episode of Kourtney and Kim Take New York.
The socialite - who filed for divorce from in October after just 72 days of marriage - has been seen constantly arguing with the basketball star during the current season of the reality show.
However, after watching an episode in which she confided in her older sister Kourtney that she knew her union with Kris needed to come to an end, Kim admitted the 'intense' scenes left her in tears.
Following a meeting with medium John Edwards on the show, the brunette beauty told Kourtney: 'I don't want to be married anymore.
'I honestly feel like I can't do this anymore with Kris. I feel like I got into this way too fast. You know I'm not happy.'
After seeing the show, a fan posted to Kim on twitter: 'I starting crying when you and Kourtney were talking to John Edwards!'
She responded: 'Me too! So intense.'
Following her marriage split, Kim admitted while she is still a 'hopeless romantic', she needs to be 'a little more realistic' about relationships.
She recently said: 'I'll always be a hopeless romantic. It means that I believe and love and the dream of having a perfect relationship, but my idea of it has changed.
'I think I need to not live in a fairytale like that. I think I maybe need to just snap out of it and be a little more realistic. What I want isn't possible.'
