She is set to sing her new song Give Me All Your Luvin at the Super Bowl a week on Sunday.
But on Tonight’s Jay Leno show Madonna was speaking about one of her most iconic past performances.
The singer,53, revealed how her infamous rendition of Like A Virgin at the 1984 Video Music Awards was not all planned – in fact flashing her underwear was an accident.
Madonna, who was looking demure in a sparkling shift dress which just below the knee and a pair of Christian Louboutin heels explained the incident.
She said: ‘Here’s what happened. I was standing at the top of a wedding cake, as one does, and I walked down these steps, which were the tiers of a wedding cake. And I lost my shoe. I lost my white stiletto. And I thought, 'Oh god, how am I gonna get that? It's over there and I'm on TV.'’
‘So I thought well, I'll just pretend I meant to do this and I dove on to the floor and I rolled around and I reached for the shoe. And as I reached for the shoe, the dress went up. And the underpants were showing.... I didn't mean to.
Leno noted: ‘And it became the greatest night in television history.’
Earlier today it emerged that Elton John offered the signer some rather unfriendly advice ahead of her Superbowl performance.
'Make sure you lip-synch good' he said mischievously.
Viewers have been treated to a sneak peak of Madona's new song which will be seen on Thursday night's American Idol show ahead of her performance at the Super bowl.
A short clip of the music video which features Nicki Minaj has been aired and by the looks of things Madonna is looking better than ever.
While the public might be firmly focusing on her music Madonna is also still putting plenty of effort into her Malawi schools projects.
The singer has announced plans to build 10 new schools in Malawi with a new partner after mismanagement forced the pop star to scrap her first project there last year.
The singer, who has adopted two children from the impoverished southern African nation, said she hoped the 10 new schools would educate at least 1,000 children a year, half of them girls.
That is double the number of children she hoped to help with her previously planned academy for girls, which was scrapped in March 2011 because of mismanagement and cost overruns.
Madonna said her Raising Malawi charity was teaming up this time with the non-profit group buildOn, which has constructed 54 primary schools in Malawi in the last 19 years.
She said; 'I am excited that with the help of buildOn, we can maintain our ongoing commitment to move forward efficiently. We now will be able to serve twice as many children as we would have served with our old approach.'
