Lights, camera, action! Andrew Garfield is flipping great as he films Spider-Man stunt scenes in New York

It appears new Spider-Man star Andrew Garfield is beginning to take on superhero-like qualities himself.

New photos of the re-boot movie being shot on location in New York today show what is believed to be the 27-year-old British actor performing his own stunts.

Garfield, clad in full costume, is seen executing an impressive flip before coming out of the roll and striking a classic Spidey pose.

The crew were on location in Harlem, New York, to film more segments for Spider-Man 4.

Some flying scenes have also been shot this week, although it is understood it was a stuntman who was suspended in mid-air attached to a wire rather than Garfield.

Columbia Pictures recently announced that the title of the next Spider-Man film will be The Amazing Spider-Man.

The film is being shot entirely in 3D and is set to be one of the big summer blockbusters when it's released in July 2012.

As well as man of the moment Andrew - who also won a host of plaudits for The Social Network including a Bafta Orange Rising Star nomination and one for Best Supporting Actor - the movie stars Emma Stone, Rhys Ifans, Denis Leary, Campbell Scott, Irrfan Khan, Martin Sheen and Sally Field.

Peter Parker's character was played by Tobey Maguire in the first three films.

The fourth installment was initially due for release this year, however it was pushed back when director Sam Raimi withdrew from the project.

In turn it was decided to re-boot the franchise with new director Marc Webb brought on board.

As a result the likes of Maguire and co-stars Kirsten Dunst and James Franco have been replaced with new actors.

Talking about being offered the role, Garfield said recently: 'I have been waiting for this phone call for 24 years, for someone to call me up and say, "Hey, we want you to pretend to be a character that you’ve always wanted to be all your life, and we’re going to do it with cool cameras and cool effects and you’re going to feel like you’re swinging through New York City. Do you want to do that?"

'Let me just consult with my seven-year old self and see what he thinks! Like every young boy who feels stronger on the inside than they look on the outside, any skinny boy basically who wishes their muscles matched their sense of injustice - God, it’s just the stuff that dreams are made of, for sure.

'It’s a true honour to be part of this symbol that I actually think is a very important symbol and it’s meant a great deal to me, and it continues to mean something to people.'
