Comedy king: New details have been released about Ashton Kutcher's Role in Two and a Half Men
It was finally revealed today that the 33-year-old actor will play Walden Schmidt, an 'Internet billionaire with a broken heart,' on the new season of the hit show, which airs on U.S. network CBS this September.
But Entertainment President Nina Tassler would not 'confirm or deny' reports that Sheen's character Charlie Harper would be killed off.
She also refused to reveal any more details of how the series would continue without Sheen, commenting that keeping 'the mystery is part of the marketing.
'It's going to be a big event and I think the chatter and the conversation and the discussion is part of what the fun might be,' she added.
However, she did confirm that Kutcher and co-stars Jon Cryer and Angus T Jones had a table read earlier this week, with the season premiere due to shoot on Friday.
'When everyone walked on that set on Monday, you could cut the air with a knife,' Tassler said during the press conference in Beverly Hills. 'Do you pay extra special attention to the first season? Absolutely.'
The script for the episode, according to Tassler, is as 'smart and funny and irreverent and risqué as the show has always been.'
And Kutcher seems to have already made a good impression.
All change: Kutcher will play heartbroken rich man Waldon Schmidt on the show, alongside cast members Jon Cryer and Angus T Jones
'He comes with a tremendous amount of commitment and enthusiasm. [He was] embraced by an extraordinarily talented cast. He is a very appealing guy - he looks great.'
She made few references to Sheen, who was fired from the show earlier this year after suffering personal problems and rowing with creator Chuck Lorre.
'Who could have predicted that we would be here six months ago?' she said, before adding that: 'Our whole focus right now is moving forward.'
Anticipation: It was announced today that Ashton Kutcher will be playing a billionaire with a broken heart on the forthcoming series
Building anticipation: A billboard for the show features the cast members semi naked, advertising the start of the revamped show
Funeral: Charlie Sheen's Two and a Half Men character Charlie Harper will be killed off in the season opener
At its height, Two and a Half Men drew in an impressive 16 million viewers and has been the highest rated sitcom on U.S. television.
'I don't know if the numbers will be where they once were,' Tassler admitted.
The new two part season premiere, which will air over two weeks from September 19,was yesterday reported to be featuring Charlie Harper's funeral, with cast members past and present attending.
According to Deadline.com, the character's beach side home will then go on sale, with real life celebrities viewing the house.
This is then likely to lead to Sheen's replacement Ashton Kutcher buying the house with leading cast members Jon Cryer and Angus T Jones somehow remaining there with him.
Sheen has moved on to other projects and is currently developing a new comedy series Anger Management.
